Beauty-not-cruelty review:

WHAT. A. TREAT. Chocolate and vanilla? Yes please. According to Natural Elements, cocoa and vanilla are both crammed full of antioxidants which helps to add shine and volume to your locks, protecting your scalp and hair from free radicals. Available to be used on all hair types (including beards!) it is designed to ‘nourish and protect your hair, leaving it easy to manage, silky and soft to the touch.’ On first impressions I wasn’t sold on the plain packaging and I admit that I went in without expecting much, feeling like the products were a little cheap looking and unexciting. However, according to Natural Elements, their range of natural Shampoos and organic conditioners contain no synthetic chemicals which will strip the natural oils from hair. Instead they use ‘essential oils which allow the scalp to breathe which in turn promotes soft, glossy and glowing hair.’ Sounds like I’m on to a winner!

My overwhelming first impression of the conditioner was just how damn good it smells! If you’ve ever tasted Bailey’s (back in my pre-vegan days I was a fan, although I still have yet to try the vegan friendly Almond Milk version!) it’s like heaven in a bottle, and just what this conditioner smells like – sweet and luxurious. On many a time I spent a little too long just inhaling the sweet, chocolatey goodness before getting down to business, probably not a recommended habit. Natural Elements recommend leaving the conditioner on for 3-5 minutes before rinsing so that the ingredients can work their magic, so it really did feel like a relaxing treat with every wash.

The conditioner always rinsed out easily and I had no problems combing out my hair afterwards. Similarly to the shampoo, I was pleased with how my hair dried but I didn’t notice anything dramatically different, although that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It was smooth and sleek, shiny and in good condition. I could easily blow dry it or tong it without any issues, although on occasion it was a little static if not washed out thoroughly enough. I was always a little disappointed that the amazing scent didn’t leave my hair smelling that good for days!

I didn’t need to use much of the conditioner on each application so I’m pleased to say it’s still going 4 months later. I wouldn’t be surprised if I get another month or two out of it yet.  But I have some sad news to break to you. Despite all this sadly this conditioner has been discontinued. Natural Elements haven’t confirmed why but it will be replaced by a new formula. Whilst in eager anticipation of the replacement I almost feel like I need to treasure the remainder of my Chocolate & Vanilla conditioner, once it’s gone it’s gone!

UPDATE: Natural Elements have now reintroduced the Chocolate & Vanilla Conditioner back into stock. Fantastic news.

A word about Natural Elements:

As we become more conscious about the products we use and the ingredients they contain, organic, natural and vegan beauty products are increasingly abundant and sought after. When British brandNatural Elements’ launched in 2001 they were at the forefront of this movement. Their mission was to create ‘healthy products with real scientific benefits’. By blending high quality natural extracts such as plant-derived ingredients, vital oils and aromatherapy based essential oils they aimed to develop 100% natural preventative measures against premature ageing. By ‘delivering formulations at a smaller, molecular level’ it increases absorption rate and so will help to ‘increase collagen, nourish skin complexion and rejuvenate Skin Cell regeneration’. Free from harsh synthetic ingredients such as parabens, alcohols, pegs and petro-chemicals Natural Elements offer skincare that is actually natural – and good for you at the same time! Made in the UK and originally designed for professional holistic therapists only, Natural Elements offer a wide range of affordable, accessible, cruelty free and vegan skincare and vegan haircare with options for everyone, including specific skin types and concerns, from baggy eyes to cellulite (sign me up for both!).
